The MHA Nation Language Program offers a variety of resources for learning our language, including online and in-person classes held every week. These classes are open to anyone interested in learning and preserving our native language.

In addition to regular classes, MHA Nation is actively working with local schools to incorporate language learning into the curriculum. This includes partnering with Maagarishda Hidatsa Headstart to provide language instruction to our youngest tribal community members.

Let’s work together to revitalize and celebrate our language heritage.

Resources to look at

Below are websites from language sites and a non-profit dedicated to saving the Hidatsa language. In the future, we will add more resources that are available.

MHA language sites created and maintained by the Culture & Language departments.

Hiráaca Maa Aru Cáawi is a non-profit dedicated to saving the Hidatsa language, spoken by Native Americans in North Dakota. They offer classes and materials to help people learn the language. Their goal is to create a program that teaches adults to speak Hidatsa fluently. This can lead to jobs teaching the language or sharing culture. It’s a big step in preserving Hidatsa heritage for future generations.
